La Gloria Cubana cigars have always been my number one “go-to” cigar. Their logo is classy and dapper and these cigars are constructed with fine quality tobacco and the price point is always accurate. When writing reviews about cigars, I work hard to remain within my own lane. So much content on mainstream cigars is available online.
Presenting an cigar review on La Gloria Cubana wouldn’t be ground-breaking material. I did struggle to choose to write this article. My reasoning wasn’t a lack of knowledge or the magnitude of such a grand cigar company. The apprehension of writing was due to the fact I was given the La Gloria Cubana Medio Tiempo to review before it comes out. While I don’t have direct specifications on size, fillers, wrapper, and such, the overall experience was amazing.
The back story
Before we fire this one up, let’s not assume everyone is aware of La Cubana’s history. If you haven’t smoked a La Gloria Cubana, you seriously don’t know what you’re missing. You’re encouraged to slow your pace and approach with caution if you’re considering La Gloria Cubana has the same platform as other cigars. I caution you to wait. We are not talking mass produced cigars and large quantities and their cigars are rolled on a limited basis.
La Gloria Cubana was founded as a small Cuban brand in 1885. The brain child of these timeless cigars was Sociedad Cabanas y Castro. In 1905 the brand was purchased by Jose’ Rochas and then one more time in 1954 by the Cifuentes family. For a period of time, the mystery continues as to why La Gloria Cubana’s production had come to a halt. Finally in the 1960’s they commenced rolling, but on a limited basis.
Since then we are looking at a true artisan craft. Cigars are rolled on a limited basis, in small batches with the emphasis of quality instead of quantity. It’s no surprise La Gloria Cubana became one of the best selling premium cigars in the United States straight from the Dominican Republic. The weight of history each cigar carries is astounding. We are talking about generations of expertise and knowledge handed down literally from father-to-son and mother-to-daughter.

my personal review
The make of the cigar carries the classic and timeless logo of La Gloria Cubana, literally meaning the “Glory of Cuba.” The vintage woman adorned with the red feather in her hair and the bright red dress. The colors of the wrapper display a well designed combination of the classic red mixed with white, grey, and black. The cigar itself was rolled well and presented only one major vein throughout the entire cigar.
The pre-light draw released a delightful sweetness and was very mild. The term “Medio Tiempo” is an industrial tobacco leaf name. Medio Tiempo is a category of leaves used for the cigar filler. They are found on highest positions on the plant. Due to such intense concentrations of oils, they bring a lot of taste and several aromas. Many of which I was already encountering during the pre-light. I could tell this cigar was going to deliver fantastic character with the blend.
Immediately during the first third flavors of sweet, creamy and almost a fresh nuttiness were present. On the back end there perceived to be a slight hint of black pepper. For the second third of this delightful smoke, the previous sweet creaminess and nuttiness remained. The burn continued evenly to this point. Once again on the back end little flavor combinations of pepper, chocolate, and coffee presented themselves.
During the last third I surprisingly encountered a slight unraveling of the cigar beginning to unfold. Thankfully it continued with a consistent burn and disappeared. Again the Medio Tiempo still brought forth the same nuttiness I was experiencing. As I neared the end, the strength of this masterpiece granted itself in a bold manner. I have to state here, normally when the cigar is nearing its end, the strength is very existent and not really bearable. It was the opposite for the La Gloria Cubana Medio Tiempo.
It was such an honor to review this cigar privately. On a scale of 1-5, the La Gloria Cubana Medio Tiempo deserves a massive 5 rating. The design, construction, flavor, aroma, and complexity of this cigar was high quality. Whether you’re a beginner or seasoned cigar smoker, this medium to full body cigar will not disappoint you. Keep an eye out for this little beauty when it goes public.
